Welcome to Health Professions Advising Center (HPAC) at Cornell University, your home for Pre-Health advising. We provide resources to the student and alumni community through enhanced advising support and innovative ways to help you make good, informed decisions about your future.
HPAC provides resources and support in a variety of ways. We have digital, asynchronous resources available 24/7 on our website and the HPAC Pre-Health Guide.
We encourage you to learn about and explore different health professions at the beginning of your Cornell journey. You can find information on a guiding framework for researching professions as well as deciding what resonates with you here.
If you are interested in a specific pre-health pathway, congratulations! It’s time to delve deeper and review academic requirements as well as prepare to engage in clinical and community experiences. We encourage you to familiarize yourself with the core competencies, as these will anchor your candidacy for health professional school admissions. We also provide general information on bridge time and an overview of the application process – when you’re ready for that stage of your pre-health journey, HPAC pre-health advisors, along with the Pre-Health Peer Leaders (PHPLs) will work with you every step of the way.
As you explore, prepare, and apply to a health profession school, keep in mind that the admissions review process is truly holistic. Many candidates will have similar grades, scores, and experiences; however, the insightful and unique things you have to say about what was learned, distinguishes you from others. It is important to cultivate qualitative characteristics that help admissions determine you are the right fit for their school/program. Learn how to become an interesting applicant here.
There are multiple ways to stay in touch and continue to learn more. Our Pre-Health Guide hosts a lively discussion board, where you’re welcome to ask questions and learn from other pre-health students/alumni. We cover topics from academics and activities to the logistics of applying and everything in between!
In your first semester at Cornell as an incoming first year student, we encourage you to take time and acclimate, as well as talk with our Pre-Health Peer Leaders (during the semesters) to learn more about the Cornell experience (from questions about pre-enrollment, research labs, to what clubs to join). We welcome transfer students to meet with us when ready to discuss their pre-health pathway at Cornell. All events, schedules, and webinars are listed here. Don’t forget to sign up for our newsletter and follow us on Instagram!
